I noticed a wart on BJ's snout and head that he sometimes scratches and irritates it.  Although the vet said they were benign, I felt they should be removed.  At 12 1/2 I didn't want him to under anesthesia, so I investigated a holistic approach to remove the warts.

I went to Whiskers, a holistic pet store in NYC, and spoke to the very knowledgeable Joseph.  First he explained that they are caused by a virus and we had to build up his immune system as well as remove the wart.   He thinks the pills are treats and loves them.  He's not so crazy about the gel I need to put on the wart.  Since i give him his favorite treat afterward, he's beginning to put up with it.

We're also introducing a raw food diet.  I'll be able to make it myself.  So far he laps it up.  I'll let you all know if there are changes in his coat, etc.

    1. They are raised pink bumps - sometimes irregular. They feel hard. Have it checked by your vet to be sure it's benign. If you're not from NYC, you can call Whiskers and talk to Joseph. To dry it up I'm using something called Silver Gel. Joseph said you need to be patient; it doesn't dry up over night, It's a cosmetic skin product and it can be used on your human also.

Good luck. LEt me know how it goes.

  3. This is quite a coincidence. Rumpy dropped by our page and informed us that you were talking about Canine Warts... well, we were also discussing about it.

We went to vet today and were informed that Chooey (our 4 month old Shih Tzu) may have either Herpes or Canine Warts. They had the same treatment.

We were given an antiviral pill called Acyclovir (an antiviral drug, which I never knew exists) and Tolfedine (for the inflammation).

I hope your new regimen works for BJ.
